Landscape Designers and Contractors: Beware of the Ease of Entry

The Landscape industry is a large and diverse business segment that can make customer’s heads spin when selecting a designer or contractor.  Making this even more frustrating and difficult for customers is the ease of entry into the landscape business.

With a pickup truck, a wheelbarrow and a shovel anyone can claim to be a landscaper.  It is imperative that perspective customers spend some time researching any companies they are considering.  Below is a list of basic questions a customer could ask when talking to any companies.

-How long has the business been operating

-How long have you personally (the salesman/owner) been in the landscape business?

-Do you have any degrees beyond high school?  If so, what schools?

-Do you have any references I can contact?

-Are there any similar projects to ours that you can show me?

-What type of warranty do you offer?

And finally…

-What sets you apart from other landscape designers/contractors?
