Keep off the Grass

This late spring is probably making everyone antsy to get outside and do some yard work and spring cleaning.  It is a good idea to avoid heavy traffic in the yard until the ground thaws and starts to firm up from all the melting snow.  Begining projects too early can lead to soil compaction which will lead to poor turf performance down the road.

One thing that can be completed now is cutting back ornamental grasses.  Simply cut off the dead growth from last year 3-6 inches above the ground.  This alone will help you landscape look better by eliminating the dead growth.

It appears as if we will have snow on the ground for several more weeks and then it will take some time for the ground to firm up so it is important to be patient.
